THE ROYAL BRITISH LEGION WOMEN'S SECTION - CORNWALL COUNTY

CHARITY No: 219279

The Women's Section is an integral part of The Royal British Legion and raises money to carry out its own benevolent work by the individual efforts of the members in their branches.

The Women's Section has been providing care and support for the ex-service community for some 84 years. There are over 1,380 branches and 80,000 members. New members are always welcome and are needed to help us to continue to care.

We have a number of benevolent schemes, whereby financial help can be given to ex-Servicewomen and wives or widows of ex-Servicemen and their children.

The Women's Section Allowance - this is a small weekly allowance that can be granted to those who are on low income and in real hardship owing to age, ill health or other difficulties.

Welfare Breaks A break of up to two weeks may be granted depending on the circumstances and need.

Children's Welfare Help is provided to assist the children of serving and ex-Service personnel with clothing, school requirements, school tip and other extra curricular activities.

Lifeline units Help is given with the purchase of units for the elderly, those who are housebound or in poor health, and those who require this assistance.

President's Award Scheme An innovative scheme with two main aims:

  1. To provide sponsorship of educational grants and scholarships to ex-Servicewomen and their dependants, wives and widow of ex-Servicemen and their dependants.
  2. To offer respite breaks for ex-Service families which may include a disabled member, with particular emphasis on providing respite for young carers.
